We are sorry to announce the passing of one of our members, Charles Poplinger, on January 24.   Charles was suffering from Pancreatic Cancer.

Charles brought a lot of fun out to our meetings and he was an avid astronomer.  On many outings he brought out his telescope to show us the stars and to teach us about the planets and galaxies.

He was also an active member in the Coast Guard Auxilary and his
ashes will be released to the sea by them in April.

Pat and Charles were members of the Chardonnay Travelers
since 2004.

Our prayers go out to Pat.
Charles Poplinger, 1940-2011
He will be missed.
   By Judy Walton
Thursday night we all caravanned to Bob and Mary Jehle’s home for a get together.  Their home is beautiful and their hospitality was so appreciated. A great time was had by all.

For lunch on Friday all we had an old fashion hamburger/hotdog lunch served by our wagon masters Lew and Mary Fowler and Don and Judy Walton.  Then on Friday evening we were fortunate to have tickets to the Brubeck Brothers Quartet at the Laxon Auditorium in Chico.  The theater was old and elegant and the Jazz Concert was enjoyed by all.

The Chardonnays really like to do worthwhile projects together.  This Saturday was no exception.  Carol Kenyon taught us how to make roll ups pillowcases.  The pillowcases we made will be sent to a hospital in Afghanistan, where they are currently using paper pillowcases ~ YUCK!  We did this as part of the American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine’s ONE MILLION PILLOWCASE CHALLENGE started 2010, which will be continuing until 1,000,000 pillowcases have been made and donated to local charities, enabling everybody that participates to make a difference.  Those Chardonnays that participated not only learned a new project; but felt we were really doing something worthwhile.

Saturday night was our potluck dinner with pork chops served by our wagon masters. The club house was decorated all weekend with a patriotic theme that tied together our support for our troops with our appreciation of our past presidents Washington and Lincoln whose birthdays were recently celebrated.

After our usual get a way breakfast on Sunday morning we all left for our various homes with the anticipation of seeing each other again at the next outing in March. The outing will be at Casa de Fruita in Hollister over St. Patrick’s Day.  We would love to have any WIT member in our area to join us and possibly consider joining our chapter.  If interested please contact Mary Fowler, Chapter president at maryf235@comcast.net.  We are a very active and fun group and would love to have you join us.

Twenty eight members plus one guest went to the Almond Tree RV Park and had a wonderful time in the sun, wind, rain, hail and even snow flurries.
